Tragic Update on Cargo Plane Incident: Fatalities Climbs to 13

The tally of lives lost resulting from the UPS cargo plane that ignited and crashed has now risen to 13, according to latest statements.

City Leader's Announcement

While en route to the Workers’ vigil, I learned of a 13th person that passed away as a consequence of the plane crash,” wrote the municipal leader in a social media post. “My thoughts are with the relatives, associates and peers of all who were taken in this recent disaster. We will endure this collectively.”

Victims Confirmed

An announcement from UPS named the pilots operating the aircraft as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts go out to all UPSer who has been touched and all in our local region – supporting you and guaranteeing you get the care and resources you need is our priority,” the company’s communication stated.

Investigation Findings

Government investigators disclosed that the jet’s left wing burst into flames and an engine detached just after departure from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the aircraft to crash and erupt into a fireball.

The safety agency announced it is investigating the plane’s maintenance history, which was in the state for repairs weeks prior to the incident.

Aviation information revealed the jet was on the tarmac in San Antonio, Texas from early September to mid-October.

“We are knowledgeable that this aircraft was there in San Antonio,” stated an investigator on Thursday, without providing a specific time frame. “We will look at all elements of repairs that was completed, including the repair time, right up to the time of the journey.”

Retrieval of Critical Items

The cockpit voice recorder and data recorder were recovered, and the motor was discovered on the runway.

The devices – known as flight recorders – were constructed to endure accident forces and extreme heat from blazes, and they seemed to be in one piece when found within the wreckage. Investigators intend to examining information from the recorders.

The plane’s final recorded information indicated an elevation of 475 feet and a rate of 210 miles per hour ahead of the crash.

Maintenance Record

Based on FAA files dated that date, a fissure on a structural piece in the fuel container demanded repairs.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which said it provides aircraft servicing for the carrier’s MD-11 and operates a repair facility in Texas, chose not to provide remarks, but said it would work closely when investigators contacted it.

Activities Continue

In the meantime, the hub activities restarted last night with its Next Day Air or evening process, spokesperson the company official said. The three runways at the aviation hub were additionally reopened.

The distribution hub in the city is the firm’s largest. The hub employs over twenty thousand people in the area, processes 300 aircraft daily and sorts more than 400,000 items an hour.

Local Response

A gathering was conducted on the late afternoon of that date by the local labor union, which acts for staff at the aviation hub, the company’s biggest freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which represents employees, started the vigil with a moment of silence at 5.14pm, the rough hour of the incident two days earlier.

“This tragedy was so abrupt, so surprising,” the leader told the assembly of attendees. “No one had a opportunity to bid farewell to any one of those who we have lost.”
